Josh Silver, Red Seal Carpenter and Learning Manager for Holland College’s new Heritage Retrofit Carpentry Program, trains carpenters to restore heritage buildings, while achieving energy efficiency, both on-site and at his purpose-built shop (left) in the new Center for Applied Science and Technology.

On Monday, January 30th, at 7pm in Beaconsfield’s Carriage House, he will introduce the program, and explain how his students are trained to use both old and new technologies to secure the future of our culturally important structures. The talk is the final installment of the Institute For Architectural Studies and Conservation’s annual winter lecture series, which this year is entitled, Spotlight on Streetscapes.

Previous speakers have included: Sally Blake Hooff, Ian Scott, and Faye Pound, who treated the audience to a tour of the Island’s streetscapes through images and stories. All are welcome to attend and light refreshments will be served. Admission is by donation. For more information, please call (902) 368-6603.
